Take Action to Stop Albany's Dark Power Bill

Monday, February 7, 2022

IBEW 10 is a member of the IBEW Utility Labor Council of New York State which works together with other IBEW Utility unions to lobby and represent our issues in Albany. We have been asked to participate in an important campaign to stop a dangerous bill in Albany. Below is a message from the council asking all IBEW members to send letters to Senator Michelle Hinchey to stop the bill and to share the video below on your socials. This is an important campaign and our jobs depend on it.

Shed a Light on Ramos' Dark Power Bill

For the past few years, the leadership of the Utility Labor Council of New York State has done its best to educate members of the Assembly and Senate on the dangers of moving too quickly with some of New York’s noble clean energy efforts. Banning natural gas without having an alternative, importing dirty power from neighboring states, and being flat-out dishonest with New York’s utility professionals is wrong and will lead to dire consequences for customers and power professionals. It is with a heavy heart that I ask you to click here and contact Senator Hinchey who voted in favor of this bill to cease and desist all efforts to deliver the dark power bill to Gov Hochul’s desk.

No one knows how to make clean energy better than us. Our members are trained to deliver power safely for our workforce and efficiently for our consumers. We even applaud environmentalists for working to create a greener future for our kids, but there is a right way and a wrong way and Senator Hinchey has it all wrong. Call Senator Hinchey Today

518-455-2350

Senate District 46 is located in the counties of Montgomery and Greene as well as the communities of Kingston, Saugerties, Woodstock, Windham and East Durham.

Below is a script to help you call Senator Hinchey, 518-455-2350. Please feel free to personalize the script to better make your point. Whether you call or write the Senator, you will need to let her know that you are a constituent and a voter.

“Hello, my name is [insert your name] and I am your constituent from [insert city and state]. I am calling to ask Senator Hinchey to oppose, S.5939A, the short-sighted proposal to effectively ban natural gas in New York State. This will cause power bills to go through the roof, rolling black outs throughout the summer, and the loss of hundreds if not thousands of good paying jobs that can support a family. As we move toward a green economy, please make sure that we are doing it the right way. Please ask the senator to remove her name as a sponsor of this bill and vote "no" if it comes before the senate for a full vote.  Thank you for your time and for considering my request for your support.”
